A Family Champion

Rabah Kino’s mother, Rita Kino, taught her son to ski when he was only four years old. She wanted to make sure that he knew the pleasure of skiing, that his intellectual disability would not hold him back from this. Rabah was able to take this skill, and with it, become a gold medal winning Special Olympic athlete. Rita has never seen him compete in skiing. She traveled with him, the only skier from the Middle East/North Africa Region, to the Special Olympics 2009 World Winter Games, and, for the first time, saw him ski competitively, and win a gold medal.
